Coaching Examples

Poor vs. Strong Coaching

Poor Coaching Example

"You need to do better. Guests are complaining."

This is too vague. The team member does not know what behavior needs to change, what standard was missed, or what support is available.

Strong Coaching Example

"I noticed table 24 waited several minutes before being acknowledged. Our standard is to acknowledge guests quickly, even if we cannot serve them immediately. Next shift, I want you to focus on eye contact and verbal acknowledgment within the first moments of arrival."

This example identifies the behavior, explains the impact, states the standard, and gives a clear improvement action.

KHEPERA Principle

"A leader does not only correct performance. A leader develops people."
